Cool Chick of the Week: Donna Nicholson

Posted in gaming with tags on May 10, 2012 by angrymrbungle

Name: Donna Nicholson

Birthday: September 1st.  I won’t say the year because, yeah, it was a while ago.  Haha!

From: Born in San Jose, CA and currently living in Reno, NV.  We’ll be heading back to California soon.  What can I say?  I love California, it’s a pretty amazing place to live and I’m more than ready to go back home.

Ethnicity: A cool AND fiery mix:  English, Welsh, Spanish, and Italian.

Background: I was shy when I was young.  I’m not shy at all now, so it’s hard to believe that I once was afraid to tell a waiter what I wanted to eat. I didn’t get into a lot of trouble growing up, I was a good kid.  I did alright in school, I was a Girl Scout. Typical stuff.  Then, one day when I was eight a friend of my parents had us over for dinner. They didn’t have kids, so naturally I was bored.  They decided they’d hook up their Pong console so I could play.  It wasn’t even an Atari!  It was the console that ONLY had Pong on it.  That was the day I became a gamer.

Yes, that’s Donna’s Tattoo 😀

Career info:   As far as video gaming goes, back in 2003 I opened a local business hosting LAN parties and it did well for a few years.  After a while, business slowed down and we were forced to close our doors.  Four years later I decided I wanted to get active in the community again so I, along with my friends Chelle and Alicia, started a video gaming podcast called “Pink and Deadly.”  We had a lot of fun, and we did very well. One of my proudest moments was when we became the number one podcast in the “Games and Hobbies” category on iTunes in the UK.  After a while my co-hosts had to move on.  Without them I didn’t want to continue the podcast, it just wouldn’t have been the same, so the “Pink and Deadly” podcast ended. The website is still around, but it’s not active.  Chelle and I did a reunion show that was well-received, and we plan on doing more.

While I was busy with Pink and Deadly I decided to apply for the Frag Dolls Cadette Academy and was thrilled to be selected for the Spring, 2010 class.  I met a lot of amazing people during that time and that’s where things really starting taking off for me and my career.  The Frag Dolls truly changed my life. Toward the end of my tenure as a Cadette I started working forPlayerAffinity.com.  I’m currently working for them as a Community Manager and co-host of their gaming podcast “Digital High.”  I’m still active with the Frag Dolls as well.  It’s so much fun it doesn’t feel like work!

At one point, Donna had the number 1 Podcast on UK iTunes

Hobbies: Video games, reading, and travel.

Pets: I have three dogs.  A Jack Russell Terrier named Halo (after the video game), a sweet Jack Russell mix (named Ratchet, after everyone’s favorite Lombax, Ratchet, from Ratchet & Clank) and a Border Collie mix named Bella. She is NOT named after the Twilight character!

Ass to Ass!

Pet peeves:  Rudeness, closed-mindedness, and intolerance.

Favorite foods: Ethiopian.  Yes, I know the jokes about Ethiopian food being an oxymoron, but it is AMAZING.  I also love Indian, Thai, and Mexican food.

Favorite movies:  The Shawshank Redemption, Tombstone, Pulp Fiction, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Aliens, and Bagdad Cafe

Favorite TV shows: Game of Thrones, of course!  I enjoyed Homeland. I’m also a bit of a cartoon freak.  I love Archer, American Dad!, and Family Guy. I was a hardcore fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I have all the seasons on DVD.  I met James Marsters — he played Spike —  at San Diego Comic Con. It rocked. He complimented my hair!  I was squealing on the inside, but kept cool on the outside.

Favorite books:  Gone with the Wind, Frenchmen’s Creek, The Lords of Discipline.  Pretty much anything EXCEPT romance novels.  Yuck.

Favorite music:  I like everything.  Seriously, I can go to a party and whatever they’re playing I’m going to enjoy on some level.

Favorite tech:  My smartphone is my life.  Without it I would surely die! 😉

Favorite travel place:  Hmmm.  So far it’s either Paris, France or Edinburgh, Scotland.  It’s too hard to pick one!

Favorite games:  Jet Set Radio Future, Batman Arkham City, the Ratchet & Clank franchise, Halo: Combat Evolved, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted 2, and Unreal Tournament 2K4.  I must give honorable mention to Pong — it’s what made me a gamer.

Favorite consoles:  PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Atari 2600, and of course my PC.

Favorite genre:  Shooters, Action-Adventure, Dance, and Sandbox games.

Favorite generation:  Probably the sixth generation — Xbox and PlayStation 2 era.  When a lot of the community were living at home with their parents because they were still kids, I was a young woman living on my own and simply couldn’t afford to play some of the prior generations.  I played some PC games and Gameboy during the gap.  When the Xbox and PlayStation 2 came out, I had money and could, once again, immerse myself into gaming.

Donna with Carlos Ferra who is the voice of Dom in Gears of War and Leonardo Da Vinci in Assassin’s Creed II

Celebrity crush or girl crush?  I adore Paul Rudd.  He’s funny, hot, talented — the whole package.  The character Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, too.  He has the brooding good looks I appreciate.  Girl crush?  Yes, I have one!  Harley Quinn from Batman Arkham Asylum/Arkham City.  I guess I like my girls crazy.  Haha!

Tell us something about you that no one would expect: Let’s see.  I use to date a professional bull rider.  I also modeled in my late teens, early 20’s, and even some in my 30’s.  Ah! This is super cool! My mom’s side of the family moved to the US from Spain and settled the city of Santa Barbara, California.  My family’s name, De la Guerra, is prominent there.  There’s fiestas, plazas, and streets named after us!  I’m very Spanish, though I don’t look it.

Donna with Chris and Kelly Brown from The Married Gamers website/podcast.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself very well established in my career in the gaming industry. Right now my focus is working with the gaming community, so probably something still in that vein.  The Head of Community with a gaming company would be nice, but really as long as I’m working in the industry and actively doing Community Management work, I’ll be happy.  I also plan on doing more traveling in that time.  Hopefully at least three new foreign lands and some new destinations in the US as well.

The Videogame culture is rife with stereotypes. As a woman, do you feel that sometimes you aren’t taken seriously as a gamer?

Sometimes, yeah, I feel that I’m not taken seriously because of my gender. It’s unfortunate because if you look at the statistics from sources like the esa,  42% of all players are women over 18 years of age, and adult women make up more of the gaming population than boys under 17.  We’re serious gamers now, whether we’re good or not, and the views toward us haven’t seemed to change.  I’m not sure why, but we need to make the community aware that there are a lot of women playing, and they’re being owned by us in their favorite games and they don’t even know it.

My Gamer Tag is EvilPixieGrrr, which is obviously feminine. As a result I’m automatically pigeon-holed as a crappy player before a match even starts. I remember one time I was playing Modern Warfare 2 on a team that consisted of a group of guys who all knew each other and I was the one random playing on their side.  A conversation similar to this went down:

Dude Number One:  “She’s not gonna do a f*cking thing.”

Dude Number Two:  “Who?”

Dude Number One:  “Evil Pixie”

By the end of the game our team had won and I was their MVP.  I wanted to smugly yell at them,  “I just led our team to victory, AND I’m probably old enough to by your mother.  SUCK IT!” But I didn’t.  I laughed silently to myself with smug satisfaction.  I should have been taken seriously, and if my Gamer Tag had been ambiguous, I probably would have been.

It’s more than that, though.  Women should be taken seriously whether they play well or not.  We shouldn’t be harassed when we simply want to do what we enjoy.

First in Modern Warfare 2 Deathmatch. Yea, I take her seriously!

Video games seem to be primarily aimed at men but I know plenty of women that play games like Call of Duty, Halo and Gears of War. What do you think developers and publishers can do to help promote and acknowledge their female fans?

I see a lot of women say they’d like a playable female character in all games.  Right now I’m managing the Ghost Recon Future Soldier forums at Ubisoft, and I see requests coming from women for a female Ghost character. It’s important to a lot of female gamers to have the option.

For me, I want developers and publishers to use smart, competent, female characters. I always loved Elena Fisher from Uncharted because she isn’t a dumb ass.  I don’t have a problem if the character is sexy, but make them formidable as well.  That’s not to say that we can’t have a funny, ditz in a game (remember, I have a girl crush on Harley Quinn), but we need balance. So, more characters like Elena please!

Donna and MongoBear from the “K.D. 2.0” podcast

Any advice for other female gamers out there?

Don’t let the jerks keep you from doing what you love.  And when I say “jerks,” realize there are other WOMEN who will mistreat you when you’re playing, too.  If you want to find a good core group to play with, check out the PMS Clan or the Frag Dolls Community Game Nights.  They’re in place to give women a fun and respectful group to play video games with.  You also need to make sure you report anyone who is being abusive to you when you play.  The only way we can change the climate is by making sure there are consequences for bad behavior.  Too often you hear people say that the insults are “part of life” but it’s really bullying, and it shouldn’t be tolerated.  Other than that?  KEEP GAMING!

Keep gaming indeed and keep looking good while you are!

What games and movies do you have pre-ordered right now?

Posted in Action, Action Movies, Adventure, Blu-Ray, Classic, comics, DC, Fantasy, gaming, IGN, IGN.com, Kinect, Marvel, Movies, My IGN, Playstation 3, RPG, Sci-Fi, Xbox 360 with tags , , , , on August 29, 2011 by angrymrbungle

Hello! It’s Sunday and it’s rainy here in New York so I am just sitting around watching some movies and will be playing more Deus Ex today. I still don’t think it’s great but it’s not horrible.

Anyway, it’s rapidly heading into the major game release season as we all know and there are several games(and movies too) that people are anticipating. September is just a few days away and the fall schedule is set and with so many awesome titles coming out I wanted to know what you already know for sure you want and have pre-ordered.

So let’s see what I have waiting for its release date in the coming months.

Not everyone liked Thor but I really did and this will actually be the first Blu Ray I own!

Star Wars Complete Saga of Episode I-VI with 9 discs and over 40 hours of bonus content. I had to get this! I haven’t watched Star Wars in a long time anyway. Probably not since Episode III was in theaters.

How could you NOT pre-order this game? It’s going to be freaking awesome!

I am fairly certain that Skyrim will be my personal game of the year regardless what any websites might pick as theirs. It’s bigger, better, faster, stronger than Oblivion and I expect to be playing it for months.

I’ve had this pre-ordered since 2010 and the night of the VGA’s on Spike TV when they officially revealed the teaser trailer. Without a doubt this is my most anticipated game and I can assure you that it will be my game of the Year for 2012.

So that’s what’s on tap for me but what about you guys? Let me know in the comments what kinda shit you already got pre-ordered to get you through this fall and winter of gaming.

Thanks!

Wooooooooo we had us some nice drama on My IGN this past week. Kinggoken got really excited about it. That shit was funny and I hope we all made a few enemies! Just kidding. Everyone from all sides has already apologized but you didn’t know that and now you do. So let’s just move on and be done with it until the next time it happens and then we’ll all have some more fun! I wore up late today so this will be published late. I like to try and be done around 12-1pm but it’s 2pm and I am just starting. It’s almost goddamn Beer on the Balcony time so let’s get this started!

Johnny Depp’s third movie this year will be The Rum Diariy which was shot back in 2009 and is based on the Hunter S. Thompson novel of the same name. Many of you should recall that Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was another Depp film based on a book by Hunter so I expect this to be a wild ride as well. The Rum Diary hits theaters October 28th.

Nice outfit, jackass

Game of Thrones has cast the part of pirate Salladhor Saan. Lucian Msamati will play the role in the much anticipated 2nd season. Salladhor Saan is a mercenary pirate pledged to the late King Robert’s brother Stannis. Hey bro, my couch from the 70’s called and it wants its upholstery back.

Epic Games announced the final map for the upcoming Gears of War 3, Gridlock. The map has been modified and revamped from the previous two Gears of War games and will feature new weapon spawns, better graphics and will have a darker nigh time setting. Epic also confirmed that Gears 3 will feature a skill based lobby that will allow newer players to compete against people like me who totally suck and have a kill to death ratio of like -5000.

Dreamworks has acquired the rights to turn Karen Marie Moning’s book series into films. There are five books in total and the first one is called Darkfever. and I have never heard of these before. Apparently there’s some vampires and uh other supernatural type stuff and I fully expect it to be just another Twilightesque teen ridden piece of garbage because it’s a young adult book series. Of course anything can happen but who has any sort of faith in Hollywood to make this NOT be another Twilight? Yea, me either.

Great news Nintendo and Sonic fans! Sonic CD  is coming once again and this time it will be a re-worked version of the classic game that will include nearly all of the original music from both the European and Japanese versions of the title. Look for it on XBLA, PSN, PC, iPhone/iPad, Android and Windows Phone 7 later this year. Oh wait. There isn’t any Nintendo platform listed there. Why is that? Because as Sega basically said, the Wii is garbage and the WiiWare service doesn’t have the power it takes to handle the soundtrack. And people wonder why I give Nintendo so much crap.

Short clip from The Avengers filming location which you can see Loki(Tom Hiddleston) and Captain America(Chris Evans) going through some fight choreography.

Valve released a trailer for Counter-Strike: Global Offense which they will be showing off that PAX Prime this weekend. Along with the trailer comes news that Valve will be having a Counter-Srike Steam sale that will have six games for a whopping $7.49. Games include Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, and Counter-Strike: Source.

If you’re a DLC fan and like to get that extra content right away then the Xbox 360 version of Skyrim might be the one you want to get. Microsoft and Bethesda have an exclusivity deal that will see 360 owners get first dibs on the first 2 DLC drops at least a month before any other platform. Suck it Sony nerds! Smart 360 owners will just wait until it eventually makes its way to the marketplace as a Deal of the Week at 50% off anyway so this doesn’t really even matter to me.

That picture is a fake so don’t go looking for news about an ESPN 360 coming out because it’s not happening. What 360 owners who have XBL Gold can look forward to though is an update to the EPSN3 content which is actually available right now as I type this up. You will have the ability to watch two live sports events at the same time via a split screen in 720p resolutions. That’s pretty cool man. Some other stuff you will get is a new guide that shows off what’s being offered on ESPN3 on the bottom of the screen. College football  is just getting started(in the US) and there will be a new scoreboard which allows fans to check out an updated list of the week’s scores from the college scene on the right side of the screen while you watch your favorite game on the left side. You can also tag which future games are coming up and be reminded of them. There’s also a new MySports feature that will let you customize which games and game genres you are interested in seeing on the ESPN3 channel with news and highlights. Finally there’s now ESPN BottomLine, a new feature that offers up breaking news from the sports world. People can say whatever they want about the 360 but the console getting ESPN3 is what prompted me to get rid of the majority of my cable and save $100 a month. On top of ESPN3, MS mentioned more TV content coming to the 360 with this Falls update but no real word on exactly what that will be.

One last bit of news and it’s about PAX and the Xbox 360 this weekend. One very lucky person at PAX will be able to win the console below. Batman Fucking Arkham Asylum, bitches! Again, Suck it PS3 nerds! Warner Bros isn’t saying how you can win the console but apparently Microsoft will be giving away more Batman consoles in the near future. Whatever man, make it a console bundle for the games release and you got at least one sale right here bro. Check the pics out!

The PS3 has more games. It’s also been the lead SKU on multiplatform titles this console gen because developers pick the hardest one to develop for. The 360 controller always needs to be replaced but the PS3 controller works forever. Also, the 360 cost over $1000 at launch if you wanted to play a game. Thank you My IGN for continuing to bring the community the cold hard facts of console gaming with your unbiased comments and unbridled knowledge. If it weren’t for you guys I would be clueless about the PS3 and 360. Thanks!

I actually had a Cool Shit blog planned for 8/22. I was going to write it before I started watching another season of Dexter that afternoon. However Dexter won and I just put it in the DVD player and got consumed for 3 days of straight Dexter. It’s over now though and I await season 6 to begin in October so uuhhhhhhh, on with the cool shit.

First things first. A bunch of pictures that Hideo Kojima has been Tweeting from the upcoming Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. There’s quite a few of them so I’ll see you after!

So what do you think? Pretty cool huh? I believe most or all of these are from Metal Gear Solid 2. I like how they will have Darth Vader without his helmet in the game. Sweet.

There’s some new DLC for Fallout New Vegas coming your way in September. According to the Bethesda Blog: In Lonesome Road you are contacted by the original Courier Six, a man by the name of Ulysses who refused to deliver the Platinum Chip at the start of Fallout: New Vegas. Ulysses promises the answer as to why he didn’t take the job, but only if you make one last journey into the hurricane-swept canyons of the Divide, a landscape torn apart by earthquakes and violent storms. It’s up to you whether you take the job or not.

There’s also 2 more DLC packs coming. Courier’s Stash which was only previously available for pre-ordering New Vegas(way to keep incentives exclusive guys). It’s a bunch of weapons, outfits and other aids. It will be on Xbox LIVE for 160 Microsoft points and PlayStation Network and Steam for $1.99.

Also available will be Gun Runners’ Arsenal. It includes weapons, weapon mods, ammo types and crafting recipes. It will be on Xbox LIVE for 320 Microsoft points and PlayStation Network and Steam for $3.99.

Not only is this the 4th DLC pack(6th when you count the weapons packs in this blurb) from the game but pre-ordering gets you nothing exclusive anymore. You can just buy it a little later for $2. I really dislike DLC and have all but sworn off of it except for Mass Effect 2 and I only bought that DLC because I got it with free points I accumulated for using Bing. I was totally prepared to never play Arrival.

More from the Bethesda Blog, they have released pictures of the presets for the 10 different races you can play as in the upcoming Skyrim.. As Fozzy would say…GET EXCITED!

Argonian Presets

Breton Presets

Dark Elf Presets

High Elf Presets

Imperial Presets

Khajiit Presets

Nord Presets

Orc Presets

Redguard Presets

Wood Elf presets

It has also been confirmed that if you kill someone in the game, their families members will try to get revenge when they see you again.  I can’t wait to get lost in the world of Skyrim for several months. This game is going to be better than tits.

Getting the Fuck Yeah of the day is Ana Martinez, Vice President for Media Relations and Producer for the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her recent post on the Walk of Fame Facebook Page saying, “Someone asked if we give reality show characters stars? Hell to the No!

SuperHeroHype.com has posted some images of a strange craft appearing on the set of The Avengers in Cleveland. Some really stupid people think this is Loki’s chariot or a Skrull spaceship. I for one think it’s Supermans ship from Krypton. He grows up to be the leader of the Justice League of Avengers, or whatever. DUH!

The Last Exorcism grossed $62.5 mil worldwide on a budget of $1.6 mil so it of course got greenlit for a sequel. The problem is what will they call the movie? The Last Exorcism: Just Kidding, The Last Exorcism: No Really, We Mean It This Time, The Last Exorcism: Uh, Sorry about That, The Last Exorcism: LOL Gotcha. I’m assuming it will be a prequel but who knows! Maybe they’ll call it Not Really The Last Exorcism.

Liv Tyler, who is pictured above in The Strangers, a movie I really liked, has been offered the lead role in an upcoming film called The Hell Within being Executive Produced by John Carpenter. The story for the movie which is being written by Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train), is a strange tale of a woman(Tyler) who goes on a quest in a Brazilian jungle to save a girl, only to discover that the girl was bait. I got me some bait for Liv too. IN MY PANTS!

An update to a previous report on The Wolverine in where I said filming would begin this year. Now Deadline.com is reporting that Hugh Jackman is filming a musical adaptation of Les Miserables(wtf?) and filming most likely won’t start until his schedule is clear sometime in 2012. Filming in Japan is neither confirmed or denied at the moment. It depends on finding good locations where the weather cooperates.

Well, it’s smoothie time, soooooo

Thanks!

Boner Bonus! Victoria Secret model Marisa Miller has joined the cast of the movie R.I.P.D. in a secondary role of unknown status yet. The Dark Horse comic R.I.P.D. is being adapted by Universal Pictures into a fantasy crime film focusing on a newly deceased cop (Ryan Reynolds) who’s drafted into a squad of zombie cops that battle the supernatural. Red’s Robert Schwentke directs, with Jeff Bridges co-starring as his partner.  I don’t think I care what part Marisa is playing or if she can even act.

I played some Dirt 3(360) yesterday and it’s pretty fun even though there’s no way in hell I am getting Platinum medals on the Gymkata(or whatever) Tutorial(I got gold n a few) and drift races make me want to rage quit. I also started watching Dexter Season 1 last night. I’m only 2 episodes in and it’s already one of the best shows I ever watched. Anyway let’s see what kind of cool shit we can find today.

The fourth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, called “Battle Lines,” premieres on Friday, September 16, at 8pm with a double episode featuring a pitched battle for Mon Calamari. There’s also a browser based MMO called  Clone Wars Adventures, from LucasFilm and Sony Online that links the TV show and game together(mostly).

We got a situation! Abercrombie & Fitch has offered money to the cast of Mtv’s Jersey Shore(The Situation primarily) to stop wearing their clothes. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! hahahahahahahah! LMAO! hhahahahahaha!

Get ready for more wacky comedy madness with the premiere of IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA’s 7th season. The show starts up again Thursday September 15th on FX. Kitten Mittens FTW!

New movie poster for Twilight: Breaking Dawn. Really? It’s only Part 1? So after this stupid movie there’s still another stupid movie to come? WHAT IN THE FUCK PEOPLE!? Stop watching this shit!!!!!!! Especially you 30+ year old women with raging vagina madness for these emo retards and sparkly vampire gayness.

New trailer from EA’s revamp of the SSX snowboarding series which will be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime in January.

Bruce Willis will be back for Die Hard 5: Please Die Already. This time John McLane will reportedly be going to Russia and as we already know he is never going to actually die.

Filming for The Wolverine will be starting up in Vancouver come November. Darren Aranofsky(Black Swan) is no longer directing but James Mangold(3:10 to Yuma) is now singed on to take the helm. “There were a number of directors who wanted to do this because we have the best script yet, but his take was the strongest,” Jackman told MTV News speaking of Mangold during San Diego Comic-Con this summer. “He’s phenomenal, he’s going to really knock this one out of the park.” We’ll see Hugh Jackass. We’ll see.

New trailer for Resident Evil….er Underworld 4: Awakenings. It will be in 3D and in theaters January 20th, 2012. You’ll never hear me complaining about Kate Beckinsale in leather!

Nicholas Cage and Nicole Kidman are starring in a new movie called Trespass which will be directed by Joel Schumacher(Batman & Robin). I’m gonna watch it just to see how completely over the top ridiculous it is!

Red Hot Chili Peppers released a new video for their song The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie. Their new album, I’m With You comes out August 30th. In conjunction with the albums release the Chili Peppers will also be broadcasting a concert to local movie theaters that same night in which they will play the entire I’m With You album along with some select past hits. Check here to see what movie theaters have been announced so far.

Shula’s Steak Houses announced today it has deployed the first set of iPads featuring Hospitality Social’s new interactive menu and wine list application – Hospitality Pads. Hospitality Pads were launched at the 2011 National Restaurant Association show in Chicago a few months ago in May. Shula’s Steak House is the first national steak house chain to launch the iPad wine lists which revolutionizes the wine experience while dining. Shula’s decided on the national roll-out of Hospitality Pads after successfully testing it in its Naples, Florida location.

“This latest innovation reflects Shula’s commitment to providing the best possible dining experience to our guests,” said Dave Shula, president, Shula’s Steakhouses, LLLP. “It offers an elegant, engaging and easy way for our customers to choose the right wine reflecting their unique tastes that also complements their meal.”

Hospitality Social’s application caters to both the novice and the wine enthusiast. The application will guide customers through selecting a wine and it also recommends the best wine pairings with each entrée on the menu. It enables guests to make informed choices and select wines with confidence even when you don’t know shit about wine. Hospitality Pads feature tasting notes, pictures, and scores for wines on an iPad. You can select wines based on food pairings, flavor preferences, regions, scoring and other criteria. This is the first such application combining an interactive menu with wine list food pairings, social networking and a rewards network. It enables restaurant patrons to get in-depth wine information right at the dining table when they are about to make a wine choice and the Hospitality Social application will enable Shula customers to track wines they order by emailing them the name of the wine they enjoyed during their meal. This is cool shit and I am sure it will be making its way into more and more restaurants in the near future.

Up and coming rapper Yelawolf has announced that he will release his debut full length studio album, Radioactive, on October 25th, 2011. Take a listen to the first single called Hard White (Up In The Club) featuring Lil Jon. Yelawolf  just completed a successful run of dates on The Vans Warped Tour as well as a string of European shows with the Wu Tang Clan. Kind of an Eminem clone, no?

Naughty Dog Community Manager Arne Meyer says that Uncharted 3 is currently too big for a 50GB PS3 Blu Ray disc. “Uncharted 2 barely made it to 25GB, while Naughty Dog is going over 50GB this time, for Uncharted 3. But in the end we’ll be under 50. We’ll be one disc.”  What this means of course is that there will now be compressed audio and video to make it fit on one disc as well as the obvious content being held back for DLC purposes.

Ridley Scott who directed the now timeless classic Alien in 1979 and has recently gone back to that world again with the upcoming 3D Fox film Prometheus(in theaters June 8th, 2012 has committed to direct and produce a sequel/prequel/reboot/something of his other groundbreaking sci-fi film from 1982, Blade Runner. This is the only news available on the project at the moment. There is no script, no actors, no nothing. It’s just been confirmed that he has signed up to make this movie in the future.

Advice Dog’s advice for 8/18:

That’s it for today guys and gals! Yes I am well aware that the PS3 will now offer NFL Sunday Ticket or whatever it’s called. It’s very cool and a great option and all but really at a price of $340 it’s unreasonable for me and probably a lot of other gamers. We bitch about $5 DLC for Christs sake. The pricing is actually one of the reasons I never got satellite TV to begin with. The only thing on there I would want is the NFL package and it was too expensive just justify switching from Time Warner. I also didn’t include the Borderlands 2 teaser trailer because there’s no gameplay and really it was quite boring to watch. I got to go make me a smoothie, work out while watching Dexter and get ready for Beer on the Balcony. See ya tomorrow!

So below we can see some dude holding some sort of gun that is obviously not of this Earth and then we see Captain America(Chris Evnas) fighting a couple of guys in motion capture suits. Nothing is confirmed as far as villains except Loki really but, hmmmm. Could this be Skrulls?

I rented Fight Night Champion(Ps3) and Dirt 3(360) but haven’t played them yet. I’ll probably get to them today. Don’t have anything going on for this Wednesday so hopefully this should be published before 8pm at night. I’ve never watched Dexter but I have all 5 seasons on DVD so I will probably start that today or tomorrow so I can be caught up for Season 6 when it starts in October(I think). Well let’s get on with it right? Right.

Co-Op trailer for Dead Island which comes out on September 6th. Will you survive the nightmare?!

Loud mouthed but talented Wide Receiver Chad Ochocinco from the Cincinnati Bengals is now a New England Patriot. Ochodinko has been silent on the field the past few years while stuck on a mediocre Bengals team and there’s no telling what his numbers could be this year with Tom Brady throwing him the ball. I expect he will just shut his primadonna mouth and play football because he has a chance to win on this team. I hate the Patriots(go Steelers!) but they have a great coach(cheater!) and a great quarterback(fag!) that can get the ball in his hands.

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, which has been available on the 360’s XBLA since August 2010 is finally making its way to Sony PS3’s PSN in September. It’s the first multiplayer Castlevania game on consoles and you can team with up to 6 players and race through these crazy levels based on levels from past games of the series. Your goal being to defeat the boss of the level as quickly as possible and pick up some rare loot drops along the way. It’s kind of reminiscent of a Diablo grindfest in a way and it’s pretty fun. The PSN will have some new features like four player split screen and six player online. You’ll also get the Beauty, Desire, Situation Desire pyramid map with the game which was paid DLC on the Xbox 360. Konami didn’t give a release date other than September.

Nintendo’s Wii console is getting a redesign and being dubbed Wii Family Edition. The new Wii won’t play GameCube games anymore but does come packed with Wii Sports and Wii Party and will also now lay horizontal instead of vertical so it will make it natural to use as a coaster while you wait for Skyward Sword to finally be released and play all the cool games coming out for the PS3 and 360 this fall. I also think they made a mistake by not having a new cool name like the Wii-U. For instance they could have called it Wii-Gnu(pronounced new) and given away a Wildebeest with every purchase. No price announced at time of publishing and it’s only been announced for the UK so far.

Harry Potter 8: The Woman in Black brings us those kooky Hogwart kids once again with even more wacky hijinks as Harry and friends get sent off to the past and to save the future from a new evil, a Woman in Black. It comes out February 3rd 2012.

Let’s just cover all the latest news from Publishing giant Electronic Arts in one shot shall we?

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the new action RPG and brainchild of ex MLB pitcher Curt Schilling is being released February 10th 2012.

EA is developing a new Fifa Street game that will be powered by the FIFA gameplay engine, and introduces Street Ball Control. FIFA Street will have an arsenal of street dribbling styles and trick moves that ignite the one-on-one battles within matches. For the first time ever, you will be able to utilize aerial skills to maneuver past opponents, an all-new sophisticated one-touch passing system for quick, precision passes, and over 50 never-before-experienced skill moves.

Electronic Arts has announced plans to acquire another indie game dev, this time it’s Canada-based Bight Games who mainly develops freemium mobile games. The studio is perhaps best known for iPhone and iPad hit Trade Nations, which recently launched on Facebook too. . “The freemium game model in mobile is here to stay, and it’s growing fast,” said EA Interactive head Barry Cottle. “The Bight team will help us to bring more freemium games to our chart-topping lineup of mobile titles this year.” I think that’s it for EA today!

Ea and Funcom announced that the Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO), The Secret World will be released for the PC in April 2012. Starting on August 26th though, gamers can register to join the upcoming betas, through a unique interactive social media campaign that will be available on www.thesecretworld.com.

Imagine a world where secret societies pull the strings of kings and presidents, where vampires are more than just a Hollywood fantasy, and where all the myths, legends and conspiracies are true. The Secret World is an MMO that breaks free from the confinements of character classes and levels and allows players to explore real-world locations with an engrossing storyline. Funcom will not only challenge but redefine long-established MMO standards.

“It has never been more rewarding working on The Secret World than it is now,” says Senior Producer and Creative Director Ragnar Tørnquist. “The progress we are making in development allows the whole team to really enjoy just playing the game for hours on end. We are all looking forward to bringing in players through upcoming betas, and their feedback will be crucial to the further development of the game as we progress toward the April 2012 launch.” This game looks ballstastic!

One of the (many) shots floating around the web of Chris Evans in his stupid looking Captain America outfit on the set in Cleveland. I am hoping they will modernize the suit once Cap gets thawed out and starts leading The Avengers. Or at least I hope they do.

MMO publisher NCsoft revealed their upcoming MMO WildStar which will be a sci-fi adventure with designs according to art director Matt Mocarski are inspired by “animated films such as Atlantis, The Secret of Nimh, and Princess Mononoke,” anime series like “Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist” and “comics such as Hellboy, Battle Chasers, and Tank Girl.” WildStar will have four classes, Explorers, Soldiers, Scientists and Settlers and boasts a future fantasy style adventure. You can sign up for the beta at the official WildStar website. While of course that trailer is cinematic and no indication of gameplay it was a lot of fun to watch and had me laughing a few times.

While there’s still tons of news out there I haven’t even touched upon yet, I can only make these so long. Plus it’s a little after 12pm here in New York and if I publish this now and I can get some other important stuff done today like exercising, Smoothie Time and Beer on the Balcony while reading the latest Fangoria. I also have to go get my moms mail and return these movies to Family Video. See you tomorrow chicks and dudes!

Thanks!

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s new movie day. Not a lot coming out but I watch anything so it doesn’t matter. Tuesday is also the day I get caught up on a weeks worth of TV shows so I will be busy sitting in front of the TV ALL DAY! Hooray! We got Gamescom this week so this might be dominated by videogame shit but we’ll see.

Nintendo who is never lacking for blockbuster news about brand new games for their consoles has just revealed that four new titles are going to be part of the budget Nintendo Selects line for the Wii.  Super Paper Mario, Mario Strikers Charged, Punch-Out!!, and Super Mario Galaxy. Oh wait, those are old games again because Nintendo is out of ideas. If you haven’t played the games yet though the prices will be $19.99 each starting on August 28th, 2011 which is a good deal for those wacky Nintendards.

Here’s a little bit of what we can expect in Mass Effect 3 when it comes to combat. Woohoo go go Liara and Garrus!

I haven’t been keeping tabs on any news about a remake of The crow because the entire idea disgusts me. Brandon Lee literally gave his life for this role and Hollywood trying to remake this is like pissing on his grave. Apparently Bradley Cooper had signed on for the lead role but thankfully has dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Unfortunately Mark Wahlberg and Channing Tatum are two other names that have been thrown in the ring for the part of Eric Draven. Fuck you Hollywood. Fuck you.

From the lips of Greg Miller over at IGN.com comes news of a new PSP model. During Sony’s press conference at Gamescom they revealed that it would be compatible with the entire catalog of PSP games and only cost £99 Euros! It will also only be available in the UK and will have no Wi-Fi…..Wait what?

New trailer and gameplay video from Gamescom 2011 for Resident Evil: Revelations for the 3DS. It looks pretty cool and you can even see Bill Murray from Ghostbusters briefly at the 1:00 mark.

Microsoft announced today some new features that will be coming to the Xbox LIVE gaming section of the Windows Phone. Windows Phone? Who gives a shit.

Alright here we go. Most likely the last bit of info on the Star Wars coins. There are two pure-silver full-color sets of $2 coins, including a $391.62 (plus shipping) Darth Vader and Millennium Falcon collection in a limited mintage of 7,500. The Darth Vader series includes Vader himself, Emperor Palpatine, the Death Star, and Stormtrooper coins. Not only that but the coins come in a special Darth Vader helmet case and actually plays the iconic sound of his respirator breathing when you open it.

The Millennium Falcon set comes with Luke Skywalker/Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi/Yoda, R2-D2/C-3PO, and Han Solo/Chewbacca. In addition, it also comes in a cool Millennium Falcon case that plays the sound of hyperspace when opening it.

$391.62 is a lot of money but don’t fret because there’s more. A set of 10 coin designs, including Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, R2-D2, C-3PO, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine. An additional 30 coins will join the collection later on and consist of other characters from Star Wars. This collection is silver plated and limited to 50,000 of each coin and can be pre-ordered for $19.57 plus tax.

Here’s some screenshots of a new Star Wars game coming exclusively to the 360. In it you will be able to wield a lightsaber, do some podracing and actually play as the Rancor and run around breaking shit. The game in question? Kinect Star Wars. *ducks* Haters gonna hate!

Yes. This is Battlefield 3 and it looks amazing. Uhhhh Jet gameplay?? Holy fucking shit! This is insanity! Not only does it look brilliant but if you pre-order the PC version from EA’s online store, Origin, you get your choice of one of three games. Medal of Honor, Dead Space 2 or Mass Effect 2. That’s a pretty cool deal and it is running from now until the end of August so get on that if you’re interested. As of now Battlefield 3 will not be available for purchase on Steam.

A report is saying that UFC and Fox have agreed to a deal for seven to eight years that would start in 2012. Spike TV has been carrying the UFC non pay per view fights since 2005 and these shows would be moved to Fox with this deal.

Here’s a Tweet from Hideo Kojima of a figurine of the Jehuty Orbital Frame from the Zone of the Enders games and behind it we can clearly see ZOE 3DS. Kojima’s text along with the picture said “Found this at Omori-kun’s desk. What’s this?”. It’s either Zone of Enders 3(DS) or it’s another port of an old game headed to Nintendo’s latest handheld. Fucking Kojima. 😀

Sony announced a price cut to the PS3, taking it from $299 down to to $249. I still feel sorry for people who rushed out and paid $600 for this at launch. If you would have waited until now you could have bought a PS3 and 6 games to go along with it for $610. I don’t really feel sorry for them. Suckers.

Here’s a cool video that you can have some fun with. It’s a cinematic mash-up of actors walking away from the camera so all you can see(in most cases) is their backs. Try to see how many actors and the movies they are in that you can guess. Keep on Walkin’, brother.

I’ll probably close with this because it’s pretty cool. Also, I’m fucking hungry. A soldier came home after being overseas for 9 months and is greeted by his huge ass dog, Emmett Thunderpaws who you can tell missed him very much. That thing could eat people.

See ya tomorrow.

Thanks!

Boner Bonus: A video of a scene being filmed on set of the Avengers movie in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.
